Emma Jane Burnett
Managing director
Emma completed her LLB degree at the University of Pretoria in 2006 and after completing two years of articles of clerkship was admitted as an Attorney and Notary on 13 March 2009. Emma has obtained certificates in both Corporate Law and Medical Law from Unisa and is currently completing her LLM in Child Law at the University of Pretoria. She has been lucky enough to have gained valuable experience in a vast range of fields of law and has over the years established a steady and variable general practice, Emma’s true passion however lies in Family Law. Emma believes that there is no problem that cannot be resolved using intellect, human experience and common sense. All answers are inevitably rooted in the traditional argument of good versus evil.
Emma loves being an attorney and believes whole heartedly in law and order and the attainment of justice. Emma strives to practice in accordance with old-world morals and values but at the same time keeping up to date with modern-day developments. There is nothing more important than integrity and honour in the legal profession. Above all else Emma believes in equality and that all individuals deserve to be treated with respect and with dignity.
In her spare time, Emma relishes in the great outdoors and is a road-running fanatic. She is an intense animal lover and believes that the world would be a much better place if everyone had the capacity to love as unconditionally as a dog. Every single one of Emma’s four dogs spent their first few puppy months at the law firm learning how to behave.
Andrew Erich McCabe
Consultant
Andrew completed his LLB degree at the University of Pretoria in 2005 whereafter he obtained a Master’s Degree in Banking Law from the University of South Africa in 2006. After completing two years of articles of clerkship at a prominent law firm in Pretoria he was admitted as an Attorney in February 2009. Andrew’s ultimate passion lies with Intellectual Property Law and aspires to complete an LLD in this field in the near future.
During the course of his career Andrew has been exposed to a multitude of areas of law and considers himself to be a well-rounded attorney. Whilst Andrew is a straight-talking attorney whom prides himself on an honest approach he believes that the single most important characteristic that any attorney can possess is to have empathy for a client’s situation.
Outside of the legal profession Andrew is a sports fanatic and nature conservationist.
Andrea Meyer
Office Manager
Andrea Meyer joined the team as a general administrator in 2015 and gradually over time took over many of the firm’s important duties, including accounting duties, and was eventually appointed as the office manager. Andrea has a Cum Laude Diploma in Hospitality Management, a first level qualification in Human Resources and a Basic Diploma in Conveyancing from the Gawie Le Roux School of Legal Practice. Andrea has also had extensive training in the operations of TransUnion and the credit bureau and will shortly commence training on the law surrounding Intellectual Property Law, an area of which she is passionate about.
Aside from Andrea’s tasks of Office and Account Manager, she does play a central role in certain strategic aspects of the business such as marketing. Andrea is also responsible for facilitating communication between the firm and the Registrar of Trademarks and plays an active role in the Personal Injury Department. Andrea strives to lead the office team with integrity and professionalism. In Andrea’s spare time she enjoys scrapbooking and doing arts and crafts.
Chantelle Swarts
Attorney
Chantelle joined Burnett Attorneys & Notaries Inc as an Attorney in July 2020. Very impressively Chantelle completed her LLB degree at the University of Unisa in 2016 whilst working full time. She obtained and completed her articles of clerkship with Creighton Attorneys and was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa on 9 May 2019.
Since obtaining her LLB degree Chantelle has gained experience in various matters and aims to utilise her knowledge and skills acquired through her experience to represent her clients in an in an efficient and honest manner. Chantelle strives at all times to provide truthful and rational advice whilst obtaining the best possible outcome for her clients no matter the circumstances they may find themselves in.
Chantelle is currently working towards being admitted as a notary and conveyancer and passionately states that with the ever growing and changing legal field one should never stop learning, adapting and developing one’s self.
Chantelle is an avid reader and believes that knowledge is power. She carries animal welfare close to her heart, enjoys the outdoors, loves scuba diving and longs to travel the globe to experience the multitude of cultures the world has to offer.
Camila Diaz
Attorney
Camila joined our firm in the early part of 2020. She completed her LLB Degree in 2015 at the University of Pretoria and after serving 2 years of articles of clerkship was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa on the 3rd of September 2018. She hopes to be admitted as a Notary Public in the near future.
She has gained experience in a wide variety of legal fields, but her heart lies in Family Law. She passionately states that she became an attorney to “defend the defenceless” and uses this as the driving force in all her matters. She avidly aspires to empower women through her actions and influence.
Camila was born in Cuba and relocated to South Africa at the age of 8 years old. She is multi-cultural and multi-lingual, being fluent in English, Spanish and Afrikaans. Whereas Camila strives to succeed in her career, time with family and friends is what she cherishes the most.
Jones Radebe
Messenger
After a long and accomplished career in the legal profession as a driver and messenger, Jones joined the team 4 years ago. Jones has been an asset to the firm right from the start and is considered by the professional staff as the world’s best driver and messenger. There is no problem or task that is handed to Jones that he cannot solve without his natural ability to be polite, courteous and respectful. Jones believes in conducting his duties with pride and integrity. In his spare time Jones is an enormous sports lover and a loyal Mamelodi Sundown’s fan.
Bianca de Klerk
Paralegal
Bianca began working at the firm in 2018 as a receptionist and was eventually promoted to a paralegal position. She is passionate about the legal profession and all that it entails. Bianca considers herself to be a ‘forever student,’ eager to build on her academic foundations in the South African law. She is currently enrolled at UNISA and is in the process of completing her Diploma in law in 2021. She has applied at the South African Law School to complete her diploma in Paralegal Practice in 2021. Bianca believes that mindfulness in the workplace is key to success – a principle she lives out through her interests in yoga, painting and reading a good book. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family. Bianca is has an ever positive presence in the office and believes in the principle that a smile and a cheerful attitude can go a long way.
Leigh-Andre’
Receptionist
Leigh-Andre is the newest member of the team and eager to explore a bright and challenging career in the legal profession. Leigh-Andre loves communicating with clients and considers herself to be a real people’s person. In her spare time she enjoys being with her family and friends, is a keen netball player and loves to play board games and go camping.
